Publix to Open Another Charlotte Store as Expansion Continues

Publix will open its newest Charlotte-area grocery store on May 29, the company announced Wednesday. The store, located at 12925 Albemarle Road in east Charlotte’s Clear Creek Crossings shopping center, will open its doors at 7 a.m.
The nearly 47,000-square-foot location will be the Florida-based chain’s 25th store in the Charlotte market. According to The Charlotte Observer, Publix plans to hire approximately 140 full- and part-time employees for the new store.
The expansion follows last month’s opening of a 55,477-square-foot Publix at Carmel Commons. Publix entered the North Carolina market in 2014 with its first store in Ballantyne.
Publix currently ranks fourth in grocery market share in the Charlotte region, behind Walmart, Harris Teeter, and Food Lion. The number of grocery stores in the area has dipped to 729 from 745 last year, though several new locations have recently opened or are in the pipeline.
