A former South Carolina police sergeant was arrested after allegedly using seized THC vapes as payment for home repairs. Mark Anthony Hayes Jr. was taken into custody on April 17, months after authorities say he misused evidence from a case. According to WBTV, Hayes confiscated 788 suspected THC vapes from a Darlington smoke shop on Oct. 13, 2024. On Dec. 4, an informant fixing Hayes’ water heater was reportedly given three cases of the vapes—worth over $2,000—as payment. The exchange allegedly took place late at night outside the Darlington Police Department.
