Tax Deadline Extended

The IRS has extended the federal tax filing and payment deadline to May 1, 2025, for individuals and businesses in parts of the Southeast impacted by Hurricane Helene and Milton. The extension applies to all of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina, along with parts of Tennessee, and Virginia.
Eligible taxpayers now have until May 1 to file 2024 returns, make quarterly estimated payments, and file 2023 returns with valid extensions. The relief covers deadlines originally falling between late September 2024 and April 2025.
The extension applies automatically to areas designated by FEMA for disaster relief. Affected taxpayers don’t need to contact the IRS to qualify.
The IRS urges residents to watch for scams and rely on official sources. A full list of eligible counties and details is available at IRS.gov.
