Violent Crime Drops in Charlotte, Despite Rise in Homicides

Charlotte saw a notable drop in violent crime during the first quarter of 2025, according to new data released Thursday by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
According to WCCB, CMPD reported 1,344 violent crimes from January through March, down from 1,626 during the same period in 2024—a 17% decrease. Aggravated assaults, rapes, and armed robberies all declined, though homicides rose to 32 from 20 last year.
Property crime totals slightly increased to 8,531 incidents, up from 8,191. Vehicle thefts and larcenies from vehicles also saw increases, while arsons and residential burglaries dropped modestly.
