More Than 400 Flights Canceled or Delayed at CLT Airport

Severe weather caused major disruptions at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Sunday, with over 100 flights delayed or canceled by 7 a.m. Flight-tracking website FlightAware reported 344 delays and 107 cancellations by 1:20 p.m.
According to WCNC, strong thunderstorms hit the Charlotte metro area bringing gusty winds of up to 60 mph across South Carolina and heavy rain throughout the region. A Wind Advisory was issued for the entire Charlotte area, lasting until 4 p.m., with “non-thunderstorm winds” expected to continue after the storms cleared. These winds, which occur closer to the surface, carry a higher potential for damage when gusts are especially strong.
