The city of Charlotte is warning drivers about a parking scam targeting users of the “Park It” parking system. According to WBTV, scammers are sending fraudulent text messages claiming that drivers have outstanding parking citations and including links for payment.
The city clarified that it never sends payment links via text. Instead, parking citations are issued in person with a paper ticket or via mail through the U.S. Postal Service.
Drivers can securely pay or appeal citations by visiting the official site at charlotte.rmcpay.com. The city urged residents to avoid clicking on any suspicious links and to report any fraudulent messages.
