American Airlines briefly grounded flights nationwide on Tuesday due to a technical issue, as the Christmas travel rush began and winter weather threatened further disruptions. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a national ground stop, but flights were cleared to resume about an hour later after federal regulators approved the airline’s systems.

According to WCCB, by mid-day, there were 1,447 flight delays and 28 cancellations, with Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte, Washington, New York, Chicago, and Miami among the hardest-hit airports. Travelers faced additional uncertainty as winter storms were expected to complicate both air and ground travel during the busy holiday period.
