North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper withdrew from consideration for Kamala Harris’ vice presidential pick on Monday night. Cooper, a former attorney general and long-time friend of Harris, confirmed his decision on social media shortly after the New York Times reported it. According to WBTV, concerns about potential challenges to his authority from Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, who is running to replace him, were cited as a factor in his withdrawal. Under North Carolina’s constitution, Robinson would assume the role of acting governor during Cooper’s absence.
